Assuit scarves were wildly popular in the 1920s as the craze for all things with an Egyptian slant ran rampant. It is a cotton mesh fabric that has tiny little squares of silver hammered thought he weave of the cotton to form the pattern. On this one the pattern is unusual in that it is very figural - little stick figures, trees, buildings and birds are represented in the rows! These originate from the Assuit region of Egypt and have been produced since biblical times. You can still find them today but the original, antique and vintage ones are far heavier and completely hand done - the difference is apparent at a touch!

The edges are hand rolled and stitched. Some areas of oxidation to the silver here and there that have darkened it but I do not consider this a flaw as it is natural patina and adds to its appeal! I find no breaks to the net. The color is more of an ivory in person with no yellow tinge - that is a trick of the light
